At this point in time it's pretty hard to find builders willing to build a Frigate with the power plant from a Prius which is likely why things aren't moving forward at pace.

But let me get this straight. We hire a British Admiral as our procurement adviser, we rig the process and commit to British Type 26 Frigates and all this cost us was a billion dollars. Cheap at half the price.

I just sincerely hope when they say:

$1:
They're meant to cover the supervision of the projects and — more importantly — to help convert pre-existing warship designs purchased by the federal government to Canadian standards

that it doesn't mean they're going to do what they've done in the past with our ships which is buy the propulsion, weapons and sensor systems from different countries so we can convert them to Canadian Standards a euphenism which means, buy the "cheapest" and "non compatible" systems we can so our programmers can spend the next 3 decades trying to write code to make sure they all work together.

I wonder how much of that billion went to the Bombardier executives for "consulting" fees.

And despite buying a completed design, all we have is the center section for one ship, and the re-design of the existing design is still in progress.

Why even buy an existing design if we are just going to re-design it?

Read my added part of the post. It's explains how we build our warships and how we outfit them. LOL'

But sadly you're right. The only things we should have to do with the Type 26's is to put in good air conditioning and ensure they work in an arctic environment. The weapons systems, the propulsion systems and the sensors should all be left alone because they were designed to work together. Something the converted 280's never had.

Read this:

Canada fucked up the Leopard with this bullshit of making everything 'Canadian' instead of just buying the goddamned things and being done with it.

It's how Canada uniquely manages to clusterfuck EVERY military procurement.

The way your government works you'd think Canada doesn't want to have a military.

What’s wrong with Leopards? I thought that was one of the rate successful implementations. Are you talking about the leopard 2s we acquired in the mid-2000s or the earlier Leopard 1s?

This is why I've said to you several times that Canada should just farm the entire defense role out to the United States for $20 or 25 billion per year. It would be less embarrassing, not to mention significantly less lethal to the personnel that have to man & operate our garbage equipment, and would get the job done far more effectively and efficiently. And the gravy on top of it would be seeing all those parasites and leeches in our DoD Procurement all get fired.

Canada isn't serious about the military. Canada isn't serious about most things because Canada at it's core isn't a serious country in the slightest. It's such a never-never land of idiocy and delirium and bemusement at every imaginable level that it might as well have been another insipid playground built for (or by) a whackjob like Michael Jackson. :|
