At this point in time it's pretty hard to find builders willing to build a Frigate with the power plant from a Prius which is likely why things aren't moving forward at pace.
But let me get this straight. We hire a British Admiral as our procurement adviser, we rig the process and commit to British Type 26 Frigates and all this cost us was a billion dollars. Cheap at half the price.
I just sincerely hope when they say:
$1:
They're meant to cover the supervision of the projects and — more importantly — to help convert pre-existing warship designs purchased by the federal government to Canadian standards
that it doesn't mean they're going to do what they've done in the past with our ships which is buy the propulsion, weapons and sensor systems from different countries so we can convert them to Canadian Standards a euphenism which means, buy the "cheapest" and "non compatible" systems we can so our programmers can spend the next 3 decades trying to write code to make sure they all work together.
I wonder how much of that billion went to the Bombardier executives for "consulting" fees.
