They only have themselves to blame. The high for the next five days in Vancouver is 9C; they should have held the free style skiing in the Whistler area. They also have another problem because of the high temps - humidity. This could affect ice conditions, for example, in skating and curling. In the curling arena they are installing big dehumidifiers to take the moisture out the air.

Its funny tho. Last year around this time, we had about 6 ft of snow where I live, and -10 temps daily. This year, we have just a cm snow and it has been raining for weeks.

Red Mountain doesnt have even close the amount of snow they had last year, so saying "its their own fault" is a bit naive.

Freestyle skiing is being held on Cypress Mountain, across the harbor from the city. Nordic skiing is being held about 20kms south of Whistler.

Who really cares where what is being held? The big question will be, how much more money is this gonna cost us?

Oh that's right, they're using their snow removal budget to pay for trucking the snow into Cypress Bowl. Like that budget's gonna last in this weather. ROTFL ROTFL

Is it just me or does anyone else think this Olympics has been cursed from the start.

You won't know the truth until at least six months after the Olympics are over when the final accounting will be made.

The Olympic Games remind me of George Bernard Shaw's comment about sex: "two minutes of pleasure followed by a lifetime of pain".

I figured from the start that one of two worst-case-scenarios would happen.

A mild winter with very little snow in February where they would have to truck snow in. Or

One of those February's like we have experienced in the past, a huge dump of snow in the middle of the month in the city. Lower Mainlanders know that anything more than 3 inches friggin paralyzes this city, it would be a disaster.

I'm glad scenario 1 is happening. At least with the mild weather everything looks prettier, the local mountains aren't going to be shrouded with clouds everyday, and trees and flowers are already blooming. Hell, alot of days now you can wear a T-shirt during the day and be comfortable, sweaters are just for evenings.

The Olympics are doing exactly what they're supposed to - transfer money from me and you to the rich. And allow politicos like Harper and Campbell to get their mugs in teh papers, taking credit for spending our money, riding the feel good wave hopefully to another election. I guess surfing should be the official Olympic sport.
