DrCaleb DrCaleb:

Hawaii isn't run by a massively corrupt Latin American regime. They'll do just fine.

Also, Hawaii has a vastly different culture from Puerto Rico. The Puerto Ricans are self defeating with their penchant for selfishness and for lionizing criminal behavior.

The Hawaiians value ohana (family and community) and like we saw in Kauai with the recent flooding it was common people who came out at great expense to rescue other people, transport food and clean water, and to clean up their roads. And that was all going on long before the government spun up a response.

$1:
Community-based organizers across the island are stepping into leadership positions in every corner, things are getting more organized by the day, and the outpouring of support from the ohana of Kauai and across the world has been inspiring and overwhelming. A daily update and press release will be sent out every morning and posted to Malama Kauai’s Facebook group page, provided directly by leads in each community.

Volunteers are recommended to take action on the below needs, connect within their moku on the Malama Kauai Volunteers Facebook group, and follow updates provided on Malama Kauai’s Facebook page as well as those provided by their neighbors. The morning update will list contacts of the day.

Hawaiians mobilizing to manager their disasters is not at all uncommon. It's who they are.

Now try finding an article similar to this one telling you about how Puerto Ricans were stepping up to organize their own relief efforts.

All of the PR articles I came across had Puerto Ricans asking when someone else was going to do something.

With the Hawaiians they don't waste any time dealing with problems. [B-o]
