erg... Bedford Basin/Halifax harbour... yikes... As a local I found it hard to believe when it was reopened for swimming following "clean-up" after decades of sewage-dumping directly into the water... But at least I know today FOR SURE that I shouldn't... darn

How typically Canadian - the recommendation to not swim in the harbour in January ... not because its cold, but because its dirty!

Well, I've never swam in the harbour...too dirty. we used to climb under the bridge on the service walkway and make it across without paying the toll. As far as too cold goes, well my Dad was in Alert and joined the Polar Bear Club up there, he tells me it's pretty damb cold, so I imagine the harbour in January would be frigid (understaement of the year)

Yeah, I read that and thought, "Ok, it might be cold enough to freeze your balls off but who in their right mind would swim in an open sewer?"
