As bad as the storm is it's not unusual for that area to get hit by hurricanes.

The part that gets to me about this is why even after Hurricane Hugo did people insist on building California-style balloon frame homes that can't withstand hurricane force winds or sea surges?

People are fucking stupid if they live in a area that's beset by predictable and recurring threats and they refuse to plan and prepare for those threats.

In our recent fires the people who cleared defensible space around their homes and who had metal roofs on top of stucco, brick, or adobe walls had no problems with the fires.

Likewise, if you live in a hurricane zone then plan accordingly because it CAN happen again!

Forecasters are most worried about the general public figuring out a pattern.
The public are being forced out of their homes at gun point for no good reason.

This Hurricane is believed to contain Sharks. This concerns me more than anything.
