Because Trump accepted Maher's challenge/satire on proving his parentage, and Maher didn't pay the $5 million as stated. Something like that, anyway.

Calling out Trump for being a birther is absolutely a +5 for Maher, regardless of the sometimes dumb shit he says.

Trump may want to review Flint v. Falwell for the relevant precedent before he goes spending too much on legal fees.

Maher's hillarious, Trump is a complete idiot anf the lawsuit is going to get laughed out of court.

On the thought that Maher owes trump the 'bet' money, the two did not have a legal contract or even a mutually agreed bet. Making a joke on national tv does not legally bind you to anyone who may ever see a clip of it. Im not sure a bet between two private individuals can ever be considered an enforceable contract.

Got that right. Trump's also the asshole trying to sue a 20-something girl into lifelong submission after she called his Miss Universe pageant a joke. Lemmy,BeaverFever, and Thanos have all hit the nail on the head. I might not agree with Mr. Maher's politics, but he has the First Amendenment on his side. Mr. Trump is a public figure, (which is how he wants it), therefore he is open to public scrutinty. Mr. Trump has no legal contract with Mr. Maher. His song and dance routine of threatening lawsuits with anyone who disagree wiht him in public is getting old. Mr. Trump goes on any media he wishes and demands his first Amendment rights to insult anyone he wishes too. If anyone reponds publicly to this bully, they are threatened with a lawsuit. I thought we got rid of Royalty in America with the American Revolution. It would appear that one is more free to criticize the Monarchy than one is too criticize the pompous blowhard that is Mr. Trump. Grow some balls Mr. Trump, and a thicker skin while you are at it. If you want to dish it out, you have to be able to take it. So far, you come across as a lightweight pussy. You demand the podium to lash out at anyone that displeases you. At the first sign of resistance, you have your team of lawyers threatening to ruin anyone's life who dares to oppose you. Nothing could be more UnAmerican than that!
