Unsound Unsound:
have you been in a riot? Or a protest? Or even a large street party with the potential to turn riot-y?

It's confusing and scary and things can turn crazy with absolutly no warning.

No I haven't...for that reason.

Still, it doesn't take a genius to figure out "gee, this isn't going well" and get the hell out.

When a peaceful protest turns into a riot, go home. Why would anyone stay around and support such behaviour?

It can be extraordinarily difficult to get out of the middle of a crowd of thousands with cops around the edges. just sayin'

If you're still in the middle of the crowd by the time it's surrounded by cops, perhaps you should consider paying attention and leaving when the shit starts.

Police tend to push crowds away...I doubt if you head the opposite way to go home that a cop will force you back into the crowd they're trying to disperse. Makes no sense.

Unless the riot police are "kettling" the rioters in order to arrest them. The police usually do give warnings to disperse when a riot starts. If you don't heed those warnings, even if you are not causing any harm, you will be arrested.

And? If you opt to disobey police, expect to be arrested.

Was in the first Stanely Cup Riot - fascinating experience. Wouldn't need to repeat it though.

Guess you just weren't smart enough to get out when things looked ugly, eh?

I agree though, it is fascinating, and fun at first. When it's just chanting or singing or high-fiving... if it's about something like a hockey game or capitalist pigs, or whatever else you might be even a little passionate about. It feels good to be part of something, kind of like being at a concert... and that's how you get caught up. It's hard to believe that all the good vibes and friendly brotherly love are about to turn ugly. How does one tell when that street party, or concert, or game is about to go wrong? It usually doesn't feel any different until it's too late. Atleast, that's been my experience.

I was downtown after game 6 of that series when it was all fun and joy in anticipation of game 7... the cops were trying to encourage people to keep moving but were smiling too. Was glad in a way that my ex had to work on game 7 night so going downtown was not an option.

Montreal, '93.

I dunno, you could see it coming a mile away.
Didn't stick around for it.

So I put on my Bandana so I don't have to breath in the CS gas as I get the heck out of dodge. Is my wearing a bandana considered a crime? That was my original question.

Yes. Why?

If you're still in the group when gas starts to be fired, which is often a last resort, you waited far too long to get out. If you're worried about gas, leave the minute you notice shit is hitting the fan.
