Nuggie77 Nuggie77:
While I agree that her results are impressive, I find it ironic that no one brought up these same sort of questions in 2008 when US swimmer Micheal Phelps was destroying his competition.

Again, I think you're missing why there's questions.

It's not because she's destroying her own competition, The difference is that Ye's times are faster than the men – a statistical anomaly.

Add to that her time is 5 seconds faster than she's ever run in a competition.

Also, her 16yo teammate, Li Zhesi was banned a few months ago because she was caught using EPO.

And finally, Chinese swimmers have a long history of drug use. 32 swimmers were banned in the 90's alone.

She looked kinda more nervous than happy receiving a Gold today. Doesn't really mean anything, but it could be years before anyone knows for sure.

I didn't miss the point, I know why they are questioning her results. My point is that no one questioned Phelps about his results in 2008. And we know no US athelete has ever taken performance enhancers (sarcasm). Even lastnight in the 4x200 relay, by the time Phelps got in the pool, he had a two body length lead which he expanded, but no one says anything.

Phelps is a freak of nature. There are a combination of physical factors/features which give him superior ability in the pool. Oversized feet, long arms, short legs, etc.

So is Ye;

$1:
China has long insisted the success of its athletes is the result of years of hard work and commitment, not cheating. And there’s no doubt the Chinese take their Olympic training seriously. The country has hired top foreign coaches and set its elite athletes abroad to train.

It also taps early into potential Olympians like Ye — spotted by a teacher for her big hands and relatively long legs — and sends them for special training if their families agree.
