Same when I went to school but as Mr C posted, all it takes is one kid to open the door for non-students or trouble makers to enter.

Wow.

After reading what OTI, Shep and PD posted it seems locking school doors is something already happening in some places.

How things have changed in the 27 years since I graduated from high school. I don't recall this being an issue at all.

And here I thought you were a 20 something hanging around here looking for a date!

I haven't been a 20 something since 20 something years ago.

$1:
It's time to expand that program to all elementary schools, at a cost of about $10 million, said McGuinty.

Going by recent history with Liberal projects that means the final actual cost of this should be about $100 million.

When I was in high school, my teacher said the only point of locks was to keep the honest people out!

Had the one teacher take a look at all the dopers hanging out in the student parking lot just shake his head and say "those idiots are the reason why the rest of us have to live by rules".

Manitoba schools have had locked doors for years. And lockdown drills.

Lockdown drills held regularly in Manitoba schools
$1:
Manitoba's Safe Schools Charter requires each school to have an emergency response plan in case a weapon is brought into a school, specifying how visitors, communication and evacuations will be handled in that circumstance.

The broad safety policies, which also cover chemical spills, fires, floods and bullying, were mandated in 2005.

The deputy minister was unsure how many lockdowns occurred in Manitoba schools this year. The annual number was once estimated to be about 10, plus many more practice drills.

Why are people upset about locking doors? Some of ours keep the main door locked too, and you have to use an intercom to get buzzed in. Strange that this is common in apartment blocks but people get upset about it in schools.

And the intercoms won't be connected yet.
