Be kind of ironic in an absolutely horrible way if military personnel started voting NDP. The Dippers have always been honest and upfront about how much they hate the military and would either turn it into some useless hand-holding arm of the UN or get rid of it altogether. Compared to how the forces get nakedly lied to by both the Liberals and Tories, and then blatantly stabbed in the back, what's worse though? Three major political parties, and every single one of them a disaster on military preparedness? Un-fucking-believable.

I'm probably going to vote Liberal next time. The military thing is part of it, but there are other issues that I have a problem with: views on prostitution, senate cover up....

$1: Who Killed the Canadian Military?" by J.L. Granatstein illustrates the downfall of the Canadian military rather well, if you're intrigued. He basically describes every Prime Minister after Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent as undercutting the military in one way or another.
Some did it far more than others but DND budgets have become a sort of conveient ATM machine for paying for vote-getting goodies and give-aways. They have taken our money away from our collective defences and then have used our money to bribe us.

I don't know why but my post cloned itself four fold.

If they lie about military spending and support, it'll be because they boosted it!

If the NDP are the nationalists that they claim to be, they would vote for much higher defence spending so that we can get some measure of control over our defences back. We didn't sell it or sub it out, we created a vaccuum that was filled by a nervous neighbour.

The NDP are many things, but nationalists they most definitely are not. I imagine the new ships for the navy and coast guard would still be built, but you can forget a suitable replacement for the CF 18. The Army would be de-fanged and sent on blue beret missions.

shameful. I'm all for ensuring we control military spending to some degree (let's be honest the US spends way too much on their military) but our troops deserve a hell of a lot more support then they have ever gotten under the CPC.

Keeping military spending under control hasn't been a concern for us for quite some time. My POV is that the military has been chronically underfunded/underequipped for decades. Even the Cold War didn't push us to do things properly.

If we brought our military sending up to that of our stingist allies, the press would go apeshit about our "run-away" military build-up. I was born in 1956. Our military is now exactly half the size of what it was then and our population has exactly doubled.
