DrCaleb DrCaleb:

If you figured this on a link I posted from the World Bank you figured quite wrong, especially with my track record.
Well, I posted the link, but yes. Based your track record, you say one thing but somehow advocate for the opposite.

shockedcanadian shockedcanadian:
...I am not supportive of anything but the free market. This means, low tariffs, low taxes, freedom of capital to invest and . . . freedom of citizens AND businesses to self determination. Freedom of businesses inherently requires freedom of citizens.

And how many times now have I shown you economists and reports that say the TPP and CETA will both have negative effects on the freedom and economic well being of Canadians? They will not 'create a free market', they will further reduce market choice while undermining democracy. That's what happens when you let business author trade deals like NAFTA or SPP. "Jelly beans". You remember Montebello, right? SDQ posing as protesters? Does that ring a bell?

But yet, you still advocate for them!
How do you propose Canadian businesses trade with Europe and Japan? Do you want the entire country to be a bankrupt state of cronyism and nepotism like Ontario? Do you want all of Canadian industry to be stifled and fail as they have in Ontario?

We either trade with others, or others trade with others and we are left out in the cold. Canada has an uphill climb as it is with our lack of innovation and excessive abuses of the security apparatus, why make it tougher to compete with artificial barriers to trade?

Well, Canada was set up as the place where Europe got all their raw materials. That's how we came to be. We already trade with Japan and Europe. Why do we need the ability to treat companies in those those countries the same as local ones when it comes to government contracts? What advantage does that give to us as citizens? What advantage is given to citizens by opening up economies like Brunei or Indonesia? Canada right now is the most sued country in the world because of NAFTA. TTP and CETA will only increase that.

I'm all for Free Trade, but none of the agreements we've ever signed, nor ones proposed, have given any economic advantage to the people who's names it was signed in. Look to the fact that the text of the TPP is still classified 'secret' and was negotiated behind closed doors as to how much it benefits us.

If you want a real 'taste' of how well NAFTA works for us, go down to the grocery store. Buy some generic Gouda, Havarti and Swiss cheese. Now taste all of these and see just how bad they are, and how much they taste like each other. That is, bland.

Behold the beauty that is Diafiltered milk from the US!

Now, imagine we let cheaper diafiltered milk in from Australia or Chile! Imagine the benefits to consumers!

Do I really need the sarcasm tag?

Ironically I was about to email certain members of the Irish government last week who voiced displeasure with the CETA agreement. I might hold off for a couple of days and see how the dust settles with this.

The way I see it, with Canadas reputation between the OPP and RCMP and the rest of the *cough cough "security apparatus", any agreement signed by Europe will quickly become buyers remorse in a couple of years anyways.

Hey, Canada should feel lucky, at least it looks like we won't have to deal with Trump. of course, the far left will be pushing for their agenda to be enacted also, so it's going to be a long eight years for us.

It sounds like you need both a job AND a hobby.

This is some kind of joke right?

Not as much of a joke as your claims to being educated, or being taken seriously.

Swiss? Havarti? WTF are they?
This is Canada. The grocery stores only have 2 fifty foot aisles of cheddar. And one small stack that you can actually taste - right beside the mortgage department.

Now now, being our latest court jester is a perfectly respectable job, and being our latest collective punching bag is an admirable hobby.

I mean, have we really had anyone that good in this position since JJ disappeared?

Oh, and good on the Belgians.

I can't say anything in this thread that the good Doctor hasn't already said, so I won't waste the bandwidth. ;)
