BartSimpson BartSimpson:
and the left needs to respect the fact that they lost.

Like that is going to happen.

Nope, far left globalism will keep marching on, no one will get in their way.

Change will be hard in Brazil. Like much of Latin America they have a history where the powerful steal from people who work hard and the result has been a negative work ethic coupled with an accurate (for them) perception that rich people got rich by stealing from someone else.

Changing a corrupt culture will require a lot of hard work on the part of the country and it will mean massive reforms from the top to the bottom of government.

This is a multi-generational commitment and not something that can be accomplished overnight.

But putting a peaceful end to an abusive and corrupt regime is a positive first step.

Of course all the "progress" on "ending abusive and corrupt regimes" will end the next time an abusive and corrupt regime is elected.

If Bolsonaro follows the Trump method, in his own country where law & order is merely some kind of a myth, then the change is going to be anything but peaceful.

Which they haven't. This guy is just as violent as the last ones. He's said Pinochet didn't kill enough people. That he wants a civil war. It seems like both sides are evil on this one.

I couldn’t agree more. The people of Brazil have been ill served by successive governments over the years.

But this asshole is going to make things worse. And by the time his true villainy will be on display, it will be too late.

Yeppers. Lots of people will suffer or die because of this man's decisions. It's like we've forgotten the lessons of the 20th Century.

No, it sounds like you're jumping to the conclusion that this guy is Hitler instead of waiting to see what he does.

Not Hitler, probably more like Pinochet. (I'd never call someone Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or Ho Chi Minh... some serious connotations behind those names.)

Like I said, we'll see.

In the meantime the vote of 55% to 44% was a clear rejection of the leftists.

I think it was a touch more of a vote for change than a clear rejection of an ideology.
