Anybody that disqualifies themself because they don't want to learn French has other problems.

Bilingualism removes people that can be more qualified to do the job, therefore you know she is the best person for the position. This only proves she's the best person who speaks two languages. It's been that way for decades.

Those aiming for these types of positions have plenty of time to learn the language so they're not really disqualifying anyone.

You do what you have to do to get ahead.
Anybody from Quebec that doesn't know English has to learn it in the forces, no matter what position they're aiming for.

At least you didn't say they chose her because she's a woman.

I never said they didn't want to learn it at all. I said they excluding better qualified people who can lead and command when they make bilingualism as a prerequisite. Forces the DND to promote on the Peter Principle.

Try practicing French out west here...8 years of it and I cant speak it very well. Read it understand but not very good at writing or speaking. There is little to no opportunity to speak it. But Spanish I can speak on a daily basis. We Are a.country is made up of more than just French and English...shouldnt disqualify someone because they cant speak French. Bilingual should be all encompassing.

I am also quite fluent in Anishnaabe ...like to see some pick that up.

Edit: because my English sucks

I know. But the position of the DND on bilingualism is a known fact.

If you're working hard towards getting promoted and you know that you'll have to be fluent in both languages, just learn the language. I'm sure that they're not that tough on the requirement. I've heard Generals speaking French who should never speak French.
---Teleprompter anyone.

You can practice your French with me whenever you want.

I thought there was a French speaking community in or near Vancouver.

Which proves my point again. You can't really speak it but you sort of can, so how important is it really? Yet you can lead and command well but you don't make the rank. What is the armed forces really about when they can do that?

Thats what I need is to practice....It is no way near as large as the Spanish community, I also travel to spanish speaking countries, alot of my friends are of Spanish heritage and we speak to each other that way. I also frequent and shop at spanish stores and hang outs.

I want to speak fluent French....I would love to have that bang on. Four languages would be wicked....I am not too damn bad in punjabi as well.

Your close though,a word for something can be different from one hamlet to the next.
Plus the words can all run together to make one word.

So bigmothafreakingsnow can become a word,or bigmothachillingblowingsnow.

It's a strange language.
