Considering the person who showed up at the airport wasn't Suaad Mohamud, I'd recommend charges too. This was the airport security in Kenya who do this all day long and who see a scam a day reguarding Canadian passports.

Folks are going to have a hard time poving them wrong.. but then the newspapers don't need proof, do they?

Nor do you it appears. If the facts don't help you, you just make them up as you go.

dude, what are you talking about?

Since you're too lazy to read, here ya go:

May 21: Mohamud tries to leave Kenya for Canada after travelling there on a two-week visit to see her ailing mother. But Kenyan immigration officials in Nairobi stop her from boarding her flight, claiming her facial features did not match her four-year old Canadian passport photo.

A document from Kenyan authorities specifies that officials believe her lips look different than those of the person in the passport photo.

Mohamud later alleges she was being pushed to offer bribe money to be allowed to get on the plane to return home and she refused to pay. She is detained in Kenya

May 22: The High Commission of Canada in Nairobi confiscates and voids her passport, despite Mohamud producing her Canadian driver's licence, fingerprints and other documents.

May 28: After spending eight days in a Kenyan jail, Mohamud is released on bail. Liliane Khadour, the Canadian High Commission's first secretary, tells Kenyan government officials a thorough investigation has determined Mohamud is an impostor and recommends that she be prosecuted.

Kenyan officials charge her with identity fraud. Mohamud would spend parts of the next 2½ months living in Nairobi slum hotels.

So she was detained since she was initially refused?
Is that accurate?

From what we have heard, these fraud attempts happen some once a day, we are told. For reference:

$1:
By some accounts, members of the Khadr family “lost” their passports as many as six times pre-9/11, when Canada, like many Western nations, digitized its passports making them harder to counterfeit. Before that, reporting a passport lost was a favorite trick of terrorist sympathizers eager to get “clean” documents into the hands of jihadis.

Why are you in this topic if you have zero intention of informing yourself? It's embarrassing.

As for your "I'm too lazy to read" question, yes, she was initially detained for 6 days then released on bail. Almost a full month later, Canadian officials recommended she be charged.

Of course, that was all available in the link I posted above.

It's clear you've already made up your mind before having any facts and considering you have no intention on reading any of the details, your motives are clear.

I have made it clear from my link of the khadrs, that "losing" Canadian passports is a very common thing. We have also seen how passport fraud happens some 5 times a week at that airport and that standard procedures were followed.
I didn't know that she was in jail and I guess we'll learn that from an investigation and not from the media.

Interesting write up in "lost passports"

Just something for the Porquat and the Libs who feel that everything was rosy before Harper took over..

$1:
On August 20, 1940, in Mexico City, a Soviet assassin wielded a pickaxe to crush the skull of Leon Trotsky. In London, England, on June 8, 1968, the murderer of Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested as he prepared to board a flight to Brussels. On December 14, 1999, United States Customs officials at Port Angeles, Washington, caught a member of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda with bomb-making equipment in the trunk of his rented Chrysler. These seemingly unrelated events have one major factor in common: all three men carried Canadian passports.

There's no doubt that passport fraud is a major problem in all Western nations. As such, erring on the side of caution when dealing with a possible fraud case (even if proven incorrect later) is probably the more pragmatic route to take. This whole episode will most likely fizzle out fairly soon, even though it's being spun into the usual get-Harper gotcha "journalism" moment by the dicks in the national media and the Opposition parties.

So far the only people I've seen accusing the situation of being a Harper "Gotcha" are the partisan conservative members of this board.

Persoanlly, I think that just due to how beaurocratic the fucking government it, they would have fucked her regardless of who is in power. I don't think either Harper or Iggy, had he been in charge, would have released a memo with specific instructions to have this woman detained in Kenya.

So RR, Thanos, quit with the rediculous Harper witch hunt. The man deserves better from his "supporters."

Just my two cents. For years now, several African countries have been involved in the creation of fake identification. These forgeries are very professionally done.
For a "mere" 25K, anyone can go to one of these countries and have an entirely new identity created that would easily pass muster except under close scrutiny.
As for whoever it was that claimed they could see on TV from 25 ft away that her licence was valid, let me ask you, did you see her licence ID number? Were you able to run it to ensure that it was legit? Just cuz YOU saw something on TV doesn't mean what you saw wasn't a forgery.
Now, I'm not saying this is the case with Suaad but, African officials are much closer to the problem than we are and deal with it on an almost daily basis.
Considering how prevalent forged Canadian documents have been and still are, the benefit of the doubt has to go to the officials in this case.
Even if it was a mistake they made, I'd rather they erred on the side of caution.

I'm sure you'll feel exactly the same way if it ever happens to you.....

The government screwed the pooch on this one. This is a little like the poor sot who slept in our embassy for six years. At least the embassy people had the good sense to let him stay.

I’ll bet serious money she’s compensated quickly just to make this go away.

6 years.. Evil old Harper's only been in for 3. What happened before him?

At least no one sent her away to Syria to be tortured. :D

No comment on this:

Check out the comments section at the CBC article on this issue for proof. It's noting but the usual "racist Harper" and "hah-hah-gotcha" garbage from the usual suspects. None of these sorts of comments would have been made if Ignatief had been PM and had handled this issue in the identical manner that the Tories have.
