I've seen gong-hunters in my time. Showing up with a new something or other every 6 months or so. Usually useless pricks who I wouldn't trust on my watch. The only way they earned them was to visit their MP's constituency office, and ask to be nominated. I recently received a medal from the Navy League, for 10 years service. Complete surprise. I had no idea I was getting it, or that it even existed. Nice gong, but I can't wear it on my uniform, it's not authorized. So I framed it along with the certificate. Nice to be appreciated, every decade or so.
