ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Louis Riel day is just another day off for everyone outside of St. Boniface, and alot who live there.

No, not just another. We get paid for that one, unlike Remembrance day.

Riel's was a mentally-disturbed, disingenuous, murderer. He got what he deserved (he gave nothing better to Thomas Scott) and he's no father of Confederation. Evidently Pat Martin needs to learn a little Canadian history before he kicks up the revisionist nonsense.
ROTFL That was good .

Louis reil was a rebel yes, but he should be respected because he stood for his people.

So every nutball who engages in armed insurrection, against the duly elected government, in the name of his people should be respected?

yes i would have swung also, and so would alot of you guys put in the same situation. When push comes to shove, alot of us would do things we think we weren't capable of.

These people weren't evil murderers, thomas scott was an idiot. The other were allowed to walk.

No specifics or objective challenges to the history? Didn't think so - par for the course.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Reil got what he deserved, just like what any other treasonous separatist traitor should get.

He got elected to the House of Commons 3 times, a holiday named after him, and a spot in the history books as a hero.

Let that be a warning to you Bloc members.

Apparently the gov't thinks he is worthy.. they put him on the list of need to know for immigrants.. kind of like an unofficial typical tory apology.

heh.
The only reason he's a hero in Quebec is because it irks the English.

As far as being a hero, okay I guess he could qualify given some of the silly reasons some heros qualify as such, but on the other hand there are only so many Canadian folk heros, you can't take vilifying them in history too lightly. I think things might've worked out better for him if it wasn't for the, imo, avoidable execution of Scott. I think the nasty details of that execution also may have drove him a little batty.
