DerbyX DerbyX:
First off, sacrifice isn't the entire issue else lumberjacks beat us all.
$1:
The 10 most dangerous jobs
Occupation Fatalities per 100,000
Timber cutters 117.8
Fishers 71.1
Pilots and navigators 69.8
Structural metal workers 58.2
Drivers-sales workers 37.9
Roofers 37
Electrical power installers 32.5
Farm occupations 28
Construction laborers 27.7
Truck drivers 25

I wonder if the deployed soldiers are part of the calculation? Even a fatality rate of 6 per 3,000 (a rotation) for instance would result a fatality rate of 198/100,000 and some roto's had a much higher number. As well, not one of those fatalities in the table is the result of someone deliberately looking to kill them.

It's so hard to get stats that can convey the whole picture.

I may be reading the last of your post incorrectly. The sacrifice is not perceived for me, I've seen it up close and personal and it completely shredded my heart and mind. Made it's just a world you have to walk in to truly understand it.

Ya ok....So you are in the forces now?

preaching to the choir....you dont know my world so dont make assumptions

[quote="lily"]Here's the original exchange:

The inference is their they leave their children like an after thought. They don't love them enough to stay. Can we let this part go Lily it's very painful for me.

The inference is your problem, not mine. I never implied that, not at all.

Whatever Lily, I'd rather not talk about it anymore. Ok!

It's a rough number per roto, that's all. As I said some were higher, and it would follow that some were lower too. What the actual average per rotation is I have no idea.

The emotional impact on those left behind wasn't the point I was illustrating. I was pointing out the differences behind those numbers in the stats. The table lists workplace accidents, while the roto numbers aren't. Would that alone have excluded them from the calculation? What would be the numbers if the field force wasn't deployed operationally?

Like I said, stats do a lousy job of conveying the whole picture. IMO, dead is dead.

OK, and my comments were directed to the stats inability to convey the whole picture.
