Yeah if a wasp stings my little girl I don't catch it and dedicate the next two days to make sure it dies the most painful death a wasp ever died. I just squish it.
Killing people efficiently is hard. There are always unforseen circumstances. The guillotine is a little dull or gets stuck in the guys head, and he's still screaming. The dude who gets the executioner snot-hanging drunk the night before so it takes him two or three swipes. The guy who's neck doesn't snap on the gallows and he's turning blue for ten minutes. The guy who has to ride the lightning twice because the first time his eyes popped out, but he didn't die. The guy who manages to crawl out of a shallow mass grave after being machine-gunned.
Whoi's idea was it to put a doctor in charge? They are useless at killing people, at least on purpose. Couldn't they find, like, an assassin or Mexcian drug cartel enforcer to consult?

It's one thing to take a life, it's another when we stoop to the base level that they did when they committed the crime that required the forfeit of their life.
A firing squad at least would have been quicker. If you are going to be killed by the state, I agree, it should not be painful or deliberately cruel. It should be quick, emotionless, and bureaucratic. If torture is the goal, we could bring back all sorts of medieval devices that would do a much better job. The execution wasn't deliberately cruel. Luckily, it just turned out that way!

The victim is dead. Did killing this man bring her back? Did it ease the pain of the victims family? It the victim was someone in your family would this man's death make the pain go away completely?
