Odds are that this will be a spending debacle that makes wasted money on the Redford sky palace in Edmonton look like a piker.

Imagine the poor PM who finally has to make the decision that the building is no longer sound and a new residence has to be built. The shite will fly. Maybe by then artificial intelligence will have taken over and "we need no fancy residence, puny humans."

It shouldn't be a PM's decision, when the White House renos were done it didn't get the go ahead from the President and the same should happen here don't make it about politics of which PM will make that call just fix the damn thing.

Has Gagliano Bros. Construction (motto: payments accepted in little brown envelopes only) already been contracted out?

This will be a fun one to watch, just to see how rapidly the Liberals bring all the bad traits they had from the Chretien years back to their usual way of doing business. I want to give JT a chance because that's just the way I look at things now. But this one, for a $100 million? I'll volunteer to have my bits cut off by the *Surgeon General of Beverly Hills and change my name to Caitlyn if this thing even comes close to being on budget, or isn't immediately infested with the crooked way construction/remediation projects always seem to get done in Central Canada.

* this guy, this is the fuckin' guy

I wonder if "Mother" is going to live in with the kids?

Maybe, they should build a granny flat out behind 24 Sussex ... one with padded walls.

Lemmy Lemmy:
Here's an idea: sell 24 Sussex, apply the proceeds to the national debt and let JT and future PMs find their own goddamn accommodations like everyone else on the planet who has to move somewhere for their work.

"Everyone else on the planet" is not a head of government. Can you name one country where the President or PM "finds their own goddamn accommodations"?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but then President Truman was heavily involved with the White House reconstruction.....

$1:
Plans were discussed to demolish the building and rebuild it to the same design, but in the end, Truman went to Congress and requested the funding to rebuild the White House from the inside out, leaving only the stout brick outer walls and the rebuild the interior largely on the same plan as the existing house—very much the way President James Madison had done in 1814.

link

$1:
The president was both the chief executive of the White House’s owner, the recent and future resident, and the current occupant of the West Wing. While the Commission was in overall charge of the project, the project manager the day-to-day management, and the contractor the execution of the work, President Truman was very much a highly influential participant from early design and throughout all stages of construction. From an early meeting he made known he had a history of watching over the general contractor (while a senator overseeing construction of the Pentagon). The president was also known to conduct sometimes daily tours of the worksite, including climbing scaffolding. Truman was a man of strong opinions relating to architecture, history, and directing work and he made his presence felt.

Exactly. It might conflict with the irrational Harper Derangement Syndrome that's been prevalent for the past 9+ years. ROTFL

Oh let them be. Must come as quite a shock to realize most Canadians don't love dear leader the way they do.

As for mom "announcing" that JT is delaying moving into Sussex (she did it during an interview), how does that compare to dear leader announcing his resignation CPC media release. Classy.

The voting public liked ours more than yours.

Harper got 39.6% of the popular vote in 2011 and JT got 39.5 percent in 2015. So,your theory that over 60% didn't like Harper rings just as true for Trudeau. [B-o]

BTW Dear Leaders son only got 7.6% more of the popular vote so I wouldn't be crowing about how beloved he is and how Canada has spoken, especially in light of your Canada hates Harper theories based on the popular vote numbers from the previous election. ROTFL

Nope, not one. How about Canada be the first to shrug off the notion of the presidential palace?

No, I'm going to need that palace once I'm elected 'Supereme Regla de Vida'.

It's hardly a palace. And there is an official residence for heads of government for many reasons, personal and national security among others. I mean what are you picturing, that the PM lives in cookie cutter 2 bedroom/1.5 bath subdivision house and drive himself to UN summits and meetings at the White House in a used 1996 Honda Civic, just so he can pretend his job is no different from the common folk? Because that would be false. The PMs job is very different and far more important than most other people's and that's just a fact.
