PENATRATOR PENATRATOR:
The Contingent CWO the last roto I was on was a Franco Combat Engineer, he BARELY spoke 3 words of English, and would not converse with anybody who was Anglo. How the fuck does a guy get that Snr appointment?

Politcal correctness. FWIW, the franco Sappers I know don't care for him either.

There are two official languages in the country.

Yes, and in Alberta it's English and Spanish because I've encountered more hispanophones (if that's even a word, but you get the gist) than francophones.

You can encounter what ever you like... but it won't change the official languages and as far as I know Alberta is still part of Canada... there is a huge difference between languages spoken and official languages.. C'est la vie ! get over it.

De jure perhaps, but not de facto in the West where learning French is pretty much useless. 'Sides, I was just ribbing you, why so serious Kenny?

His pissed because the bilingualism rate of Canadians hasn't increased dramatically in the past 35+ years. Still slinking around 18%.

"C'est la vie ! get over it." means leave our sacred cow alone and keep on pumping billions into a program that tends to benifit one side more than the other and it isn't working.

Mawpe Mawpe:
"Really?? Called many Federal government offices and got an East Indian or Pakistani that speaks French have you?
And I'm sure that the Sikhs that joined the RCMP spoke fluent French as well.
Seems to me that the only ones that need to speak French if they wanna work at the federal level are the ones that were born here."

You're a racist, bigot and above all a pisser and moaner because somebody worked and got a job you would love. Why is Canada short on doctors and not tradesmen? Doctors lobby hard to keep up the Draconian rules of immigrant doctors not being able to work in Canada becaus they didn't pay the corporate universities in Canada to learn, so they have to drive cabs. Meanwhile its okay to bring in German staff to construct Canadian roads and buildings because the caprpenter's don't have a strong enough union to lobby to require them to have their "tickets" invalidated. Canada is full of elitists that make policies, or haven't you noticed? Maybe thats why you hate immigrants because they will one day get out of the cab and sit in an oerating theatre overlooking your ulcer operation.

Yer a moron. First off, I'm RETIRED quite comfortably, made FAR more than ANY Fed gov't job pays. Second off, This was NOT a rant at immigrants you tool, it was about the fact that Fed Gov't jobs are bilingual and there are MANY people working for them who in fact, do NOT speak French.
Maybe if you actually tried reading the posts in context, it would help prevent you from making some of the most idiotic accusations in this thread.
Oh, by the way assface, my parents are immigrants and so are my brother and sister.

Yes, Canada is a strange country as it is. They can have 99% people speak one language yet have 0.3% of a language be an official one because they want that 0.3% people to be happy. Quebecers often forget that being an 'official language' doesn't mean everybody speaks that language. They also seem to forget that most people in Canada speak english, therefore NOBODY is obligated to speak french to serve you outside Quebec.
