A huge step backwards, Canada is always preaching about democracy, and we have a picture of a foreign head of state. One who's only qualification for the job is to be born into a certain family. Disgusting. How about a picture of the Dutch royal family, at least one of them was born in Canada. I like the Conservatives but this is wrong.

I hope Charles doesn't abdicate, mainly for that it wouldn't be fair to William. He just got married and graduated university, has just begun his military career, his many works with charities and aid organizations, and still has MUCH to learn prior to him acsending the throne. Just throwing him into the crown like that wouldn't be a good move.
Take a look at his grandmother Queen ElizabethII. She was in the same stage of life as William is now, then BANG she suddenly became the reigning monarch and had the massive responsibilites just dropped on her. The Queen never got to see an adult life. Is that what we really want for William? Just take away his adult life and drop the crown on his head when he isn't ready for it, just like Elizabeth was? I don't think so. I say let Charles rule.

Technically, you're wrong Princess Margriet was born in Ottawa, but the rooms of the hospital where she was born in were declared "extra-territorial", which meant she automatically got the nationality of her mother, and not the Canadian.

Isn't the freedom of choice to do with your life what you want, one of the greatest goods of a democracy? They don't have a choice. Why would we want them not have a choice?

DanSC DanSC: DrCaleb DrCaleb: Queen Elizabeth is Queen of Canada because Parlimant delcared it so. So, out of all of Parliament's options, they're choosing Charles, who isn't even Canadian? Leg excercises can be beneficial to the heart. Jumping to conclusions, not so much.

Am I stating the obvious? I think so.

Parliament's making a poor decision if they want Charles to be the next one. Your leap in logic is that Queen Elizabeth has not abdicated as Queen of Canada; her successor has not been named; and Parliament is free to name anyone it wishes as King/Queen of Canada. Prince Charles, Prince William or Prince Harry, or Stompin' Tom Connors if we so desire. We'll see what the choices are when she abdicates. Until then 'choosing Charles' may not even be an option.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Brenda Brenda: BartSimpson BartSimpson: Will Canada place a portrait of the Queen in the Quebec embassy? Why not? I didn't realize Quebec was it's own country, not reigned by the Queen? Quebeckers think it is. I think Bart needs more fresh veggies in his diet. Oat bran will also help.

I agree, and that's why I live in a condo.
