We also had a ton of these the most solid VHS player ever made lasted us well into the late 90s. I think might still have a few lying around in the store somewhere

Kind of miss the days when these things were built to last. Try getting two or three decades out of a DVD/BluRay or flat panel TV.

But then again I can buy a new DVD player for $30 today. These were around $400 to $500 back then which was quite a bit of money.

Bloody expensive yes, but they were worth every penny. Your deck would outlive the tapes it played.

Now it's vice versa. The players are plastic crap and the discs are long lived (if you keep grimy kiddie fingers off 'em).
