I like the upper depiction, it is far more representative on balance. Just my humble opinion tho..

just shows your lack of knowledge and judgemental stand. there are those who choose to dress as depicted above and there are very straight acting and looking gays who fit your steriotype of straight. the pride parade is about far more than freeky people who go to the extreme. A survey done in Montréal proved that many who took part in the parade were not even gay... go figure. Unlike the right wing politician in Ottawa, the gay, lesbian and transgendered groups accept without discrimination others with different views.

No more funneling money to interest groups. I don't care who they are or what they promote. Let them find their own cash. We've got a pretty heavy bag of hammers to carry around as it is.

If the parade stands to bring in so much cash, then finding private financing should be no problem.

If the government didn't set the precedent of throwing money away, we wouldn't be in so much debt, we wouldn't be paying so much in taxes and there would actually be more money out there for people to support the things they personally find important.

As a side note, the tawdry spectacles these so-called "leaders" put on to represent homosexuals and other non-mainstream sexual preferences in this society are downright tacky and I think they have actually done more harm to the image of homosexuality than it has to better it.

If anyone was wondering why homosexuality's image hasn't progressed past this..

To this...

Pride, its partisans and those of similar organisations and events are the reason why.

Looks like you're a don't ask don't tell kind of guy. Homosexuals should not be seen?

I think he means that homosexuals are just like any other, and do so not need the dress up queer bullshit (that I personally despise...).

Gay, fine, but the gay pride parades look more like transvestites on a prawl than anything else.

my stay in this forum will be a short one. I do not care one way or the other if the gay pride parade gets funded by the government. I suppose I could weigh in with a bunch of opinions, but frankly I think it just one of those issues that I think ought to be considered insignificant, ie the funding.

What the costumes? I have no idea how funding is doled out but very often parades allow people to construct their own floats and man them in the parade all on their own coin.

Funding for something like this isn't different then the government funding the easter parade or the santa claus parade.

ALL parades, parties, festivals etc. should be financed by the municipalities, and the residents of. I live in 'Dogpatch Alberta'. Just how will I benefit from my money being used to fund a parade in Ontario? What is MY return on investment?

Well, if the 400K investment helps Toronto pull in 20 million and 5% of that is returned as federal tax then the net gain is $600000

I agree with Brenda and Mac. Personally I think any event that promotes understanding of the issues faced by our LGBT citizens is a good thing.

But.....I think in a time of fiscal uncertainty, all these cultural festivals should be self-funding or supported by other means, such as corporate sponsorship.

Federal money should be for things of national significance, not for local ones.
Pride in Toronto is a very local event, even if they have visitors come from all over. It's still a Toronto-centric event.

Oh and I’m afraid I also think that some of the costumes and antics at Pride don’t really promote understanding, I believe they just reinforce stereo-types and provide fodder for the bigots.

no more so than Carnivale or Mardi Gras say that all heteros are drunks and sluts.
