Pretty hot placenta. Animals do it, why not humans?

Animals have a reason to do it. Sometimes my dog eats his own crap too.

In a role specifically written for her style of acting, January Jones will next be seen starring in a film simply entitled "Wood".

Evolution for one. Also, I think the hospital can properly dispose of the placenta, so you don't need to worry about attracting predators.

the point of eating the placenta is to replace nutrients for the mother. I don't think this is worth making a big fuss over. It's just another thing that the Hollywood crowd does to be special, I doubt it will catch on in a big way.

$1:
“There is certainly a potential medicinal use,” ABC News quoted Dr. David Katz, founder of the Yale Prevention Center, as saying. “This is a time-honoured cultural practice of eating the placenta. It is nutrient-rich and a source of hormones.”

To each his own, I guess.
Doesn't bother me what she does...
...doesn't make her a bad person either.

lol, even if the placenta had a high nutritional content, it's not like it could be the only source of it. I think some Traditional Medicine has merit, but this is the kind of thing that's more about Spirituality/Rituals than anything concrete.
