Hmm, maybe the province shoulda paid attention to the Unions concerns before transferring all the prisoners over.

Why bother when you can just declare it illegal and force them back to work with no changes made? Not like the Harper feds will actually consider the workers ever actually having a valid argument.

These are provincial employees... what does Harper have to do with it?

Challenging anything forcing you going back to work will eventually get federal involvement.

Also, it's fun to blame anything and everything on Harper.

Hard not to when he has been basically setting a trend of forcing every strike back to work without waiting for any talks.

I am a union guy but here I think the province needs to hire scabs. Send in the MLAs and MPs. I am sure they will find the work done by prison guards to be fun and not worthy of any increases in pay or benefits.

Maybe I missed it, but what exactly were the concerns with the new facility? I didn't see anything describing what the issues were with this new prison.

Also, very brave job leaving the other, unarmed workers in the prison without any protection from the inmates.

Something to do with the open concept of the design.

Apparently they presented the province and OHS with 5 pages of concerns having to do with the layout and with the training they received to deal with how different the concept is from what they're used to. They did that after their first tour of the finished facility afaik. It's inexcusable imo that the province did nothing to alleviate their concerns.

If it's unsafe for them, they should walk out too. Two stupids don't make a smart. And every worker has the right to refuse work that they believe to be unsafe. Period.

I agree that's a serious issue, but eh. Actually going on strike with prisoners in the facility? A bit dangerous too, especially if reports prisoners are damaging the facility right now.

What's wrong with the other 8 prisons where the guards are striking at?

Also, is it mean of me to assume that this prison was described as "more humane" for the prisoners once it was built? I just have a bad feeling that went into the design.

In future news: four MLAs became pregnant by a single detainee and the names of 14 MLAs available for trysts were written on a jailhouse wall, along with prices for various sexual favours.
