Start road testing seniors every year and get the ones that are a hazzard off the roads, this woman is 83 and obviously had no business being behind the wheel.

Obviously? She may have a squeeky clean record, 65 years of no accidents.

I agree persons over 70 should be tested yearly, and every one else once every 2 or 3. The first roadtest is cheaper than renewing your license, so they could do a road and medical test at the same time as you renew.

Before we all jump to conclusions, this may not have had anything to do with her age.
Running red lights is not reserved only for those over 70.

Quite right, Ray, but I live in a retirement community, and most of my work is around another small town with a lot of elderly drivers. 'Driver inattention' is the first thing I thought of as well. I know I have to be extremely careful when I am out and about because it seems that for the most part the elderly drivers 'don't see or don't care'!

Of course it's driver inattention. If it wasn't, she wouldn't have run a red light.

No, she may have late for a doctor's appointment/church/bingo/booty call and deliberately ran the red.

And there are other reasons she may have been distracted that have nothing to do with her age... such as changing station on the radio or texting.

Sweetheart, I will be the last to say it was because of her age. It still is drivers inattention. HAd she paid attention, she would have seen the red light, AND the woman with the stroller. I neve said she did anything intentionally, or is too old to drive.

Hell, my ex FIL was too old to drive when he was 40, while my great grammy could have been driving till the day before she died at 96.

When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather..............not like the screaming passengers in his car.

Actually my grandfather died working in the garden at age 93. He was also still driving the grain truck for my uncles at harvest time, not to mention driving around town. My uncles say he acted like a 65 year old anyway.

It COULD be unrelated to her age, but... 83?
