of course he can plead guilty now.

He can see how light the sentences are, and he's already back out.

Shameful.

I'm really not understanding our justice system here.

One of these guys got life in prison. Okay. We could consider that 'fair' but let's face it they never actually killed anyone. Meanwhile people are getting crap like 12 year...15 years...for outright murder. Don't mistake this for sympathy for the T.O.18...I'm just not understanding why they're getting life, but actual murderers are getting equivalent of a dog's life in prison.

I mean what's the lesson here? If you plan to kill people you better actually do it or you'll get a stiffer sentence?

Conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism, and in my eyes TREASON against Canada, I think they are getting off lucky myself.
Life sentence to the leader, guess what, double credit for time served, he's eligable for parole in 12 years.
The other guy that got 12 years, double credit for time served, he's eligable in 6.5 years.
I know they didn't kill anyone, but I don't doubt they would have went through with it had they not been caught.
As far as murder goes, we are tooo leinient on them as well, same with rapists, child molesters, and all sorts of other violent offenders.
The great farce of Canadian justice

Your problem is your first sentence! Quit thinking we have a justice system and start realizing we have a LEGAL system where little to no justice is ever served. As for the POS who was sentenced to life, I would be greatly surprised if he served more than a couple of years before being eligible for parole. There truly is no such animal as a life sentence in Canada.

Yeah well it's true that justice can never really be served since justice is relative.

What also concerns me here is that terrorists are getting to know their target counties security and legal system system better and how to avoid being caught in the future so that a planned attack at some point in the futire has a better chance to succeed.

Actually I find the opposite, we've all read headlines about how CICIS and th RCMP have bungled things as far as anti terrorism is concearned, nbow we have a succesful prevention of a terrorist act due to due diligance and good police work, no mistakes made or they would have come up in court and convictions. I think it sends a message that we aren't the pushover they all think we are, except wehn it comes to time served.

He'll be eligible for parole in 2016. Let's hope the parole system has some balls.

Clifford Olson, Paul Bernardo, etc will never get out on parole. Same with some of those guys that are declared dangerous offenders.

Hows about we have a decent sentence in the first place,
so we don't have to sit around wringing our hands and worrying about
the parole system and its lack of balls...

Yep, remember the days when even a 16 year old could get life in prison for murder, even when he was wrongfully convicted, a la Truscott?
Now, even serious assholes essentially get a slap on the wrist and pretty light sentences for their crimes.
