herbie herbie:
Bart, look at a map. We don't import oil on the West Coast.
http://www.centreforenergy.com/factssta ... rgyMap.asp$1:
While most of the natural gas and virtually all of the coal produced in BC are exported, the province imports most of its petroleum products and, in some years, is a net importer of electricity.
http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/sources/p ... arket/1358$1:
There are two refineries operating within British Columbia and together they supply about a third of the refined product demand in the province. The balance of the local demand is supplied from Edmonton via TMPL shipments to Kamloops and Vancouver and through rail shipments to Prince George, Terrace and smaller locations within the B.C. interior. From Vancouver, product is barged to terminals on Vancouver Island and along the coast. Any shortfall is met through imports into Vancouver from the U.S. west coast.
According to Canadian sources,
you do.
And, like the last site notes, Canadian barges (tankers) transport oil via ocean routes to BC coastal and off-shore locations.
So like I said, what's the big deal about oil being spilled from Iran when Canadian (and other) oil is already being shipped about the region anyway?
