    Nyquist isn't a goon like Lucic or Marchand.

    Maybe if he had known the cross check he felt knocking him to the ice
    would be penalized, he wouldn't have retaliated quite so harshly.

    Bad reaction and you could see him going "aww fuck what did I just do" right afterwards. Lucky he didn't hit the eye. Probably get a decent suspension but maybe not as bad a one if it had been done with pre-meditation.

    Even if the reaction was overboard the fact remains that Spurgeon took a cheap shot which was the reason for the retaliation.

    This crap of dirty stick play has got to stop period and the only way it's going to happen is if the NHL either, lets the enforcers back on the ice to rectify situations like this or makes the penalties for doing them so harsh players will think twice before using their stick as a weapon.
