"For over a century, brands such as Kellogg's cereal, Campbell's soup and Aunt Jemima pancake mix filled pantries of American households that wanted safe, affordable and convenient food. They provided companies with reliable revenue growth from grocery shelves, and there was little reason to mess with that formula.
Today, these giants are struggling with competition that is corroding business from both ends. High-end consumers are shifting toward fresher items with fewer processed ingredients while cost-conscious shoppers are buying inexpensive store brands. The makers of staples including Chef Boyardee canned pasta and Hamburger Helper meal kits failed to spot the threat and didn't innovate in time..."

Nowadays, if I want chili or ravioli or pasta, I just make it myself and, when possible (like chili or some pasta casserole dishes), I freeze some of it for future meals.
Just turns it into an even more disgusting mangiacake pasta
That's it.
And the younger crowd that I know all tend to eat out almost all the time.
Breakfast is at Starbuck's or a donut shop. Lunch is from a restaurant or a food truck. And dinner is either picked up at a restaurant or store or else it's delivered by a delivery service like this one:

Most of the 20-35 crowd I know are barely skilled enough to boil water these days because they're so used to ordering out.
Lisa and I had two young ladies over for dinner a few weeks ago and the two of them (18 & 22) absolutely marveled over my making a very simple fettucine with shrimp in a cream sauce. One of the easiest things I know how to make and they thought it was incredible.
Sad.
The only boxed food I still eat on occasion is macaroni and cheese-powder.
Got a tale to tell.
I hate that stuff, used to steal the cheese powder to sprinkle on popcorn and then serve the kids the macaroni with tomato sauces.
One day the wife made the kids mac and cheese. They were puzzled. It was white and tasted awful.
Asked her what the hell she did. Said she found a box that was opened and the cheese pack was missing. She knew I did that all the time and said she saw some packs on the laundry room shelf. Assumed it was white cheddar when she used it.
-It was septic tank starter! Two packs fell out of the pack on the shelf above.
Shoulda seen the pandemonium.
You tried to kill us Mom! Gagg Puke
25 years later on the 3rd old lady, I understand why she might've concieved of the idea I'd put food in the goddam laundry room. Found large Phillips driver in the cutlery drawer. Can of compressed air for computers in the fridge. The axe was in with the Xmas decorations. Discovered the ultimate purpose of doors and drawers is to put large heavy things in front of so you can't open them....etc. etc. etc.

In my defense, I was drunk.
