Most fire departments enjoy opportunities like that to use their equipment and hone other skills. Quite useful training. I used to use our local one to help mount radios on towers or once we rode their biggest ladder up to see how high a tower we needed to see over a stand of trees. Funny how if I climbed the damn thing my knees would be knocking and heart racing, but 100 ft up in that cage didn't bother me. They'd do it for a donation on the understanding they called the time and they'd instantly be gone if an emergency happened. Same with cats from trees, limbing etc.
Sorry, according to their union contract they can only do cats. So they sent a cat up the tree to catch the bird, then rescued it. Bird was dead, half eaten but nobody broke .....
