WASHINGTON/NEW YORK - The Trump administration said on Tuesday it was pursuing a $1 trillion stimulus package that could deliver $1,000 checks to Americans within two weeks to buttress the economy as the number of deaths from coronavirus nationwide crosse
Sounds like the temporary UBI bill brought forward by Tulsi Gabbard.
Which was inspired by the platform of Andrew Yang.
Hopefully both of these people have prominent positions in the next administration. The only two that seem to be planning ahead and demonstrating forward thinking.

This is good news for Americans and should help them ride out the storm.

Not so sure, heard a couple of nights ago it may not be enough. $1000 is nice and no one is disputing the need. Some are saying that this lockdown may got 2-3 months. What do people do next month and the month after.
Others are saying it should be $2000 a month till this is over.
I'm just happy I still am working and earning a pay check. A $1000 check would help me a lot but does it help the family of 4 when they are not working do to business shutting down.
I've contacted some friends about assistance if they need any. One friend, divorced with 2 little girls, lives 4 1/2 hours away. I let her know if she needed stuff to call me and let me know. I will bring her all I can on the weekends. I've checked with some others closer to me and also let them know I'm able to help to a certain point if needed.
I would encourage you all to reach out to someone who may need assistance and offer to help as best you can.

The proposal I heard was $1000/adult, so a family of four would get $2000/month - I don't know if that's enough, but it's a lot better than $0.
Whatever it turns out to be, it's a good sign that the government is taking this seriously and not trying to cheap out and cut taxes or something else ideological. This puts cash in people's hands and will help a lot of people.
Kudos to you for stepping up and looking out for other people. +5
"Thanos" said Yup. If Trump follows through on this then I will 100% credit him for helping to do the right thing.
Agreed but watch the senate. The bill the house passed that is for free medical testing and supplies is being debated in the senate. Some think they are going to stall the bill or take a long time before passing it.
No surprise there. Mitch McConnell has to be on the top-ten list of the absolutely worst Americans of the last fifty years, the sort who do things simply to prove what an utter asshole they are. He's toxic poison on the same level as the likes of Roy Cohn, Joe McCarthy, or Al Sharpton.
"Robair" said UBI is $1,000.00 / month for every adult.
That will go a long way to paying rent / mortgage etc.
It helps yes but those who are not working, business closed, it probably wont be enough.
Imagine someone is working bringing home $2500 a month. Wife and a kid. Rent $1400 for a 2 bedroom apartment. (guessing on that number), $300 car payment, $130 eclectic bill, now throw in food, gas and other bills. Now his job closes do to Coronavirus. Is $1000 enough to help sustain for the next 3 months?
Don't get me wrong I am not against this I'm just trying to reason out if more is needed. Who is going to get it. How long they will get it.
Good points. At the very least, its a good start. $1000/month may not cover everything but it should cover rent and utilities.
If the lockdowns last for more than a month, then consideration should be made to perhaps doing like Italy where they suspended mortgage and rent payments. Or upping the monthly allotment.

I would favor a middle ground. Suspend rent/mortgage, and utilities and $1000 for the duration. This will make that $1000 go a lot further in sustaining people during the pandemic. The timing of when it should end is IMO about 2 months after this pandemic ends. Society hopefully will be regaining it's footing and jobs should start coming back very quickly once we are safe.
Why I call this a middle ground is for rent / mortgages I am leaning towards Gov. paying them for the duration. Utilities once this is over spread the cost over time so people can pay the bills. I haven't worked this all the way out in my head. Yet I can see steps like this being needed.
