Something needs to be done about these assault knives. Too bad a good guy with a gun wasn't there.

    Maybe.

    "Idris Abdus-Salaam"

    Maybe "Islam!"

    Maybe just mental illness.

In Canada we had a bus passenger beheading and eating a fellow passenger...

In Sadiq Khan's London they've had so many stabbings a judge proposed a nationwide programme to file down the points of kitchen knives.

    In Canada:

Knives most common weapon in violent crime

Most crimes in Canada do not involve violence. When they do, most are committed with physical force or threats (76%) rather than a weapon (18%). When a weapon is used, a knife is the most common choice.

    6 years ago in Calgary:

What Calgary police chief Rick Hanson called the "worst mass murder" in the citys history didnt end at the barrel of a gun.

Instead, the 22-year-old suspect identified on Tuesday as Matthew de Grood is accused of entering the kitchen at a house party, taking a large knife and using it to fatally stab four men and one woman, all of whom were students in their 20s.

You're looking in from Pakistan so you can be forgiven for not seeming to understand the stabbings happened in America. Knoxville Tennessee is in America.

Boots seems to think stabbings only happen in America. I was explaining to him they happen all over. In Canada for example they're the most common weapon in violent crime.

Gee... could that possibly be the reason our death by violence is lower here than in America?

So Idris Abdus-Salaam stabbed and killed 3 women at a truck stop in Tennessee and you want to scream at them.

And this makes sense to you?

When Matthew de Grood stabbed and murdered 4 guys and a girl in Calgary did you sing "Oh Canada?"

You want to laugh at murdered Americans but you call somebody racist for saying "Kung Flu."

That's twisted if not a little disgusting, man.

...and you use it as an excuse to protect gun rights.

You posted the story and that was your first post, knives kill people too... and I'm sure you love it because he has a name that doesn't sound American enough for you.

    Shame on you!

I agree for the most part. It's genuinely unfortunate that a responsible good-guy with a firearm wasn't there to stop him. The other part of the sad reality though it this - even if there's someone there to gun down an attacker it's unlikely they there in in time to stop him, just like the police are generally never there on time simply because they don't have a magic wand to ensure that they can get there instantaneously, and the damage the son of a bitch intended has already been done.

The pro/con politics over firearms doesn't apply here anyway. The situation played out that there wasn't anyone with a gun close enough to stop the killer. Five minutes before there might have been and five minutes after there also might have been. But at that exact moment there wasn't. Tennessee's a deep-red state for the most part so the "anti-gun liberal pussies" argument doesn't apply in the slightest to this particular incident - swing a dead cat by it's tail within a kilometer of that truck stop and you'll probably hit a hundred people who have firearms and at least a dozen of them carrying at any given time. So "firearm rights being suppressed!" as the cause of the killing just doesn't work in that kind of location. Trying to insert it into any discussion of this incident is actually quite disrespectful to the deceased and, in general, quite grotesque.
