The trip hit turbulence when Jean faced heckling and swearing from anti-poverty protesters who dogged her walk through Vancouver's troubled Downtown Eastside neighbourhood on Wednesday. Yeah. It's not the right headline but I doubt many here would o

The poor people yelled at the Governor-General! Good! She will remember, and something will happen. Like the Queen, the Governor-General speaks to the powerful leaders of Canada, one on one. She also meets heads of state from many countries, and they spend many hours together discussing affairs of the world. She will remember them!

I do not agree with the monarchy or the office of the GG..but I am sure this particular GG knows where these people are coming from.. she lived it in her homeland....I am sure she felt compassion for them...... and I dont approve of them hassling her.. but I understand their plight... it must be fucking terrible to be poor and on the street... and not everyone can get a job... so before I get that... I have worked as a street nurse in Toronto and I know something of what I speak..

Not everyoe can get a job in downtown Vancouver where the starting wage is 12-15 bucks an hour and up for the un-educated, it's called construction industry, and they are screaming for everybody from mid-level management, to the labourer who pushes wheelbarrows, to the cute secretaries at the desks on site.

If that doesn't work for you, Go to the labour shop in the morning. Guys come in, say who they want for what and how much they'll pay, and if you want you can go with him.

These people are just lazy assholes who want more government handouts, or the drug addicts who are too fried to know better.

Damed right. It's never been easier to get a job in Vancouver.

.. but not when you're a pampered little whining addict on the East side, and you believe that the world owes you a living. It must be so because there are so many poverty pimp groups telling them this, and catering to their every little need and desire.
Maybe she sould have gone low key and they wouldn't have noticed, but that still dosen't excuse these assholes shouting at her or anyone.

This sort of crap is just a primer for the upcomming olympics.

I sometimes wonder if there's any truth to the allegations the core of these guys are professional protesters. Like you'll see the same faces protesting poverty this week, and Afghanistan next week.

health canada does take care of some but not the homeless.. people living on the street dont always trust people .. you people who think that everyone is capable of work dont have a clue... try walking a mile in someone elses shoes for a change.. when you sleep in a cardboard box on the street and you dont have enough to eat or proper clothes I dont think you can show up for a job interview.. why are you people so fucking judgemental... try doing some volunteer work with addicts or homeless or the mentally ill....then perhaps you wont be so smug

ridenrain.. I hope you never become addicted to anything or become seriously ill with a disease with no cure.. when you are down so low you have no hope no motivation to get one of these plentiful easy jobs as you say.. you might have some compassion.. I hope that you never lose a job or a person that you become depressed ... lets hope sorrow never knocks on your door.... Cheers.

no interview required. I myself have walked by a construction site looking rather shabby, and the first thing that happened before i could even take a picture of the tower going up was a guy asking me if I was looking for a job. they're in incredibly desperate need and don't care who you are or what you look like.

If after 2 weeks you prove yourself to be a complete idiot or a lazy bastard, you'll get kicked off. but looks and presentation don't count for alot in Vancouver's job market anymore. they want you more than you want the job.
