It's a sad day. Canada has condemned a man for having had the decency to refuse participation in an illegal war... for having had the decency to refuse to partake in the slaughter of civilians.

He condemmed himself for not having the guts and strength to hold strong to his views in his own country. He ran away.

Good riddance coward. If he truly wants to be in Canada, and not just to hide from his duty, he should try to do it legally next time. Of course he'll probably have a criminal record so it might be even harder.

I think someone here put it best in saying that if he really wants to make a point, now he's in the right place to do it. You're not going to get much US press in Canada.

Whatever became of the nobility of civil insurection is shat upon by wimps like this, and those of you who support him just further the fall.
Think about the past heros who stood up for their belief, took their punishment and kept the faith. In this example, I recall Muhammad Ali who went to them and spent 3 of his most valuable years as a fighter in jail. Eventually his conviction was overturned but he never ran or wimped out.
