CHICAGO - Democrat Barack Obama said Tuesday that the New Yorker magazine's satirical cover depicting him and his wife as flag-burning, fist-bumping radicals doesn't bother him but that it was an insult to Muslim Americans
get over it. He would have been better to show up in that costume on Saturday Night Live, Late Night or some other media show. Laugh it off and take away the issue. The bigger the deal he makes of this, the more of an issue he makes it.
Obama is an elitist? Nawww...I mean after all the times Bush gets called a redneck and a Nazi and everything else, even in those left wing cartoons and protest signs, Bush had a thick enough skin to not give a damn. He can't handle the Presidency if he is being this pathetic on this.
What the hell is he going to do to stop subtle insults against America during his Presidency?
Bush is ok as a monkey/ frothing madman/ et al but Obama (middle name 'Hussien', educated in the biggest Islamic country in the world until 10 years old) being satirised with wearing a topi is a huge issue.
Personally I think the inclusion of his wife as gun toting chickie is not in good taste but Hilary Clinton has been portrayed in much worse cartoons.
Basically satirising blacks or Muslims is taboo. White men and women are fair game though.
"EyeBrock" said Er, it's a huge issue in case you didnt notice? Hence the thread.....?!
And jog your memory back to days of the Danish cartoons. Cartoons. The response defied comprehension. Truly medieval,
I guess it was an attempt at satire, but a little gauche.
That said, I have stood in front of a judge before (student court) defending rascist, sexist and homophobic jokes published by an entity of which I was the leader. I remember being shocked at the level of outrage. The court deemed our crime so heinous that we were denied a defence attorney. All due process went out the window and the lynch mob was at the gates.
If you thank Canada's Free Speech and the HRC, wait till Osama, sorry Obama get elected.
That will be a drark day for the USA and Canada.
Great Obama the Politically Correct President.

Considering a black presidential candidate is satired in a major US magazine, I'd say it's apparently not all that taboo.
