I've seen effects like that before. Nothing new...
There is also the "bending of light", which in and of itself can give some illusions. many times before have I seen "comets" in the darkening sky with a ball at the end and a trail behind it heading to the ground.
Also, notice the poor image quality... The ball almost glows/shines the way a planes fuselage does when the light hits it at the right angle.
Pretty much everything I've been brought up with and even my gut tells me this is a jetplane.
It more than likely is a plane, since I've seen similar optical illusions before. As the sun sets, the sky changes colour. This is due to dust particles and whatnot in the sky, and as a result the light is refracted along a different spectrum.

Your gut is wrong, throw it into photoshop and blow it up 1000% it is not a plane. Not sure what it is but its not a plane

And if this was an alien vessel, wouldn't we see some shape?
Except for one problem, as you up the resolution/zoom in whatever, there is clear degradation. Just how well do you expect cameras and photoshop to work on an object that is flying a couple kilometres above the earth?
Yeah it gets distorted but even inside a block of distortion the color would be different then the surroundings. I will assume that you are not familiar with the power of Photoshop. You would be amazed at what can be done even with a 3 mega pixel camera and Photoshop

Whats the big circular shape that looks like a fireball?
