OTTAWA - The federal government should provide better long-term care for soldiers wounded in Afghanistan and ought to recognize them with medals similar to the U.S. Purple Heart, says the head of a Senate committee.

Well they sure as hell could do better,, esp in mental health and post traumatic strees syndrome.. they could do better with support systems for their wives, children and parents..

Agreed Kenmore, but we have people on this forum who think that Service men/women deserve the same as bus drivers or ford plant employees.
Are they not all the same?
Tough bus route equates to fighting in the 'Stan.
Or maybe putting on that bolt on a Ford Flex is just the same as being in the PPCLI and storming Taleban strongholds.

    Same shit really eh?

Right now there are many coming back with post traumatic stress syndrome and the military ignores the issue.. these men and women are very ill and I feel bad for them.. they have flash backs and all kinds of social problems.. and good treatment is hard to come by..

Really the government has done a piss poor job since WW1 ... my father came back from WW2 with post traumatic ( called it shell shock then) and he wasn't well his whole life.. he had flash backs and mental health problems up until he died at age 74.. went through hell.
the military ignored it and they gave him retraining to work for the government in civil service... they didn't pay for his life long mental health illness at all.
