More and more japanese auto makers are dominating the market. let Obama pull the ailing US industry and japan will simply take up the slack as the US auto industry simply further prices itself out of the market.

I like the idea of focussing on Japanese Manufacturers for Canadian manufacturers. Even if the Big 3 survive, the Japanese will continue to dominate.

Funny the Woodstock plant is stalled right now and Toyota has canceled the Mississippi project, the only big project in NA on the books right now is KIA in Mississippi. Lucky for me we got that project 2 years ago

Because GM transmissions are the smoothest shifting transmissions on the market and have been for some forty years. The upside of the GM tranny in the Rolls is that you can usually swap out a Rolls engine for a far more powerful Chevy engine and not have to customize the bell housing and engine mounts.

I too like the idea of letting Japanese auto companies replace the Big Three.

The Big 3 barely survived the oil shock in the 1970s and this time around it looks like they might be really done now. My guess is that they'll consolidate/merge into one or two companies, giving them a chance to survive. However, given that they are utterly incapable of understanding customers' needs/wants and the direction of the auto market, I'm not expecting them too.

And given that US auto companies have their HQs in Detroit, not Canada, I'm guessing they export profits just like Japanese companies do. At least we'll still have some jobs left in our country.

Losing the auto manufacturers has ramifications far beyond who you buy your car from because a fair chunk of defense equipment is also produced by these firms. The thought of depending on a foreign nation to produce military equipment is truly scary.
