A lot of soldiers who come back from the war come back to nothing, along with there war symptoms. If they had a friendly face from the war to look after. Maybe they won't think about suicide as much.
It would definetly cut back on suicides I think, war is hell and they are luckly they find all these stray dogs and keep them as pets on the base. Keeps there mind away from war for awhile. In the process, they really befriend the dogs and it's such a drag that they got to leave them behind where they got to worry about there living conditions.
