Infamous 'bait car' thief makes good in B.C.

He had the opportunity to kick his addiction because he was given a relatively long term in a federal prison and was forced to change.
If he was given a conditional sentence and monitoring, he probably would not have changed and would be dead by now.

It's great the guy was able to turn his life around but I'd like to know what the percent that do not.

sooo...CONVICTED on 24 charges, tried to shoot out of a window with a prohibited weapon....under the influence of a controlled substance....dangerous driving....AND HE GOT 2 YEARS....OOOOOOHHHHH CCCAANNNAADDDAAA....WWHHAATTT AAAA FFUUCCKKIINNGGG JOOOKKKEEE!!!!

Have some compassion.. he had substance abuse issues..

I wonder how many punks who were weaker than him, couldn't kick their habits and went on to kill people on the roads? Maybe that's why the parole boards and justice industry isn't clear with their statistics.

Considering his condition, it was pure luck he didn't kill anyone. What if he mowed down you're family? Would 2 years still be enough?

Funny.. it was crp like this that Cadman and White were fighting against. I doubt Cadman would have thought 2 years was enough either.

For him. I think we'd all agree that he's the exception to the rule however.
I honestly don't think you can MAKE people quit such addictions, but you can stop them from harming others by putting them away.

How many have been studdying addiction for how long, and all we have in BC is more and more addicts with, what appears, less and less supervision.

I'd rather they go play social scientist somewhere else.

I think this was an individual who finally accepted the results of his actions, took ownership of his problems and had the guts to fix them. That won't happen when we have a whole industry telling addicts that it's not their fault and they have an "acceptable alternate lifestyle"

The beauty is that when they get the longer sentances, they get sent to federal jails that have more treatment options and better funding. When they get less than 2 years ( I think that's the cut-off) they stay in smaller provincial jails where turn over is high and there's less call for long term programs like curing addiction.

So do you agree in this case that a long prison sentance was in everyone's best interest? Is it just possible that you might stop blaming the victims and put some of that on the criminals instead?

This case proves that addicts get better treatment and stand a higher chance of rehabilitation when they recieve stiffer sentances in federal prisons.

You just can't admit that the longer jail term gave this man the opportunity to clean himself up, can you?
I think it's clear and have no interest playing semantic games.

Because they go together. You can't do drug rehab by corespondence.
