WINNIPEG -- Talk about putting out a fire. Four members of the Office of the Fire Commissioner and at least one other passerby helped foil an armed carjacking on a dark highway west of Winnipeg on Monday night.

    I used to pick up hitchhikers all the time. Picked up a drunk one by accident once. Now I discriminate a little more. I'll still pick them up in the morning if they're walking down the road with a lunch bucket. Not likely to be trouble if they're on the way to work.
