Chr�tien, Broadbent brokering possible coalition: reports

What a bonehead move by the Tories.

Obviously these Liberals feel they are entitled to that public money and will go to any desperate lengths to get it.
I wonder how Dion/Martin and Latyon feel about being left out of the loop on this deal?

Obviously, these Tories think Canadians want a government that's bought and paid for.

Fine, then repeal all limits on donations personal, union, and corporate. It's not public money, so why not let them have it?

A coalition is a good move. The Libs, NDP and Green agree in advance to seats based on the popular vote they received last election. Then each party decides not to run candidates in the ridings of the others parties in proportion to the seats they want.

That eliminates the left votes cancelling each other out as each riding has a choice between the CPC candidate or a "coalition" candidate be they either Lib, NDP, or Green.

I think that idea would appeal to a great many Canadians and stick it most deservedly to the CPC.

I wonder what Bob Rae and his supporters are thinking today

I for one do not like the idea of a coalition. If the Liberals had put up a strong leader and actually ran a smart and hard campaign, they would have formed the government in the last election and there would be no issue of a split vote. I don't share the beliefs of all the parties in this supposed coalition so I'd have a tough time voting for a member in my riding that was from a party I don't support now. That in my opinion would be a dishonest vote.

I would be only too happy to vote anything but Conservative after the shit Harper's pulled.

You know hurley, every government we've ever had has pulled shit. Finding an honest politician that has the best interests of the people at heart is almost as rare as a unicorn. The people that do go into politics that do have the best interest of the country or province do not get very far as they are not crooked enough to rise through the scum, bureaucracy and corruption. When all Canadians finally realize that, maybe then we'll get a government that will work for us.

I would be voting ABC based on one issue and one issue alone. (Don't believe I have to expand on that )

Seems to me that back in 2006 we heard alot about Harper was different and his party would be different. Under him we would get an honest conservative govt that would curb spending, slash taxes, rebuild the entire CF, and do away with all the corrupt partisan games. No more political porking, no more catering to QC. No more pork barrel projects. Definately no deficits under any circumstance. No floor crossers, no political appointments. None of the dirty tricks the Libs were guilty of.

What happened? Is Harper the innocent farm boy corrupted by the big city or was he just like any other politician only a massive hypocrite about it?

Yea, others have pulled shit, but Harper's running "Extreme Makeover, Government Edition." He's not renovating, he's tearing down and rebuilding to suit his own narrow, shortsighted agenda.

Yes, every government we've had since Confederation has pulled shit. Harper though promised he was different and accountable, but he really hasn't been has he. He taken advantage of almost everything he criticized the Liberals for while they were in power (accepting floor crossers, reneging on tax promises, even cancelling defence purchases). Instead, he has been totally focussed on trying to get a majority, with tax cuts, outright bribes ($8 billion in spending days before the writ was dropped) and dirty tricks, like this one.

I don't much like the idea of a coalition either, but maybe this will teach Harper a lesson that he needs to work with the other parties in a minority, not keep hitting them over the head and bullying them to get his way. His first six months or so (2006) he did just that and a lot got done. What has he accomplished in the past year with his bullying...not very much.

Not a fan of democracy huh?
