I want to see MS come up with some sort of compensation for those of us who got stuck/screwed with Vista when we purchased computers/laptops that came pre-loaded. I got a quote of a few hundred $$$ to change to XP. New harddrive and another copy of XP.

Find a small, local vendor of misc parts. They may sell you an OEM copy on its own, or they may let you take one if you buy a new optical drive or something else relatively trivial you may need anyway. Could save a few bucks.
