The supply ship HMCS Protecteur departed her home port of Esquimalt, B.C., this week for a three-month deployment to the western Pacific Ocean

    Is it just me or does the article make it sound like the ship is going out into the Pacific to sell fuel to other navies?

    Other countries supply ships, supply vessels of allied navies all the time. Its very common.

    It is a Standard NATO practice. We fuel off of the Yanks all the time as they have Tankers lined up from Alaska to Australia and just about everywhere else you can think of. From time to time we take our turn as a Mid-Pac Oiler.
