This must be wrong. The Conservative government hates culture.

The money would be better spent elsewhere, especially considering the current economic conditions. Everyone else is cutting back on frivolous entertaintment expenses, so too should the government.

I still think they should have taken all federal funding for cultural events away from Quebec, I still a little pissed over the re-enacting fiasco.

All govt funding for ALL non-essentials, in every aspect should be discontinued until the economy recovers. Let the user pay.

Many of these festivals generate revenue though, they just need federal funding to get them off the ground first.

Whats considered non-essential though? I don't think its feasible or a government to budget like a family cutting out the weekly dinner out and movie rentals.

Sending 10 billion to the IMF however was just highway robbery.

Why not? The reason they create a budget is because they allocate funds to so and so department for so and so project. All it would take is a few people actually reading the budget, and picking and choosing which projects would be worth cutting.

Until its your budget that gets cut and then the screaming starts. The Libs did that in 93. By definition the military was pretty non-essential to post-war and post-cold war Canada yet not much support for cuts there. Ditto just about anything they cut.

Let them pay for it themselves then, this is bullshit, people are losing their jobs and yet were funding this.

Ontario contenders could include Luminato, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Stratford Festival, the Shaw Festival, Caribana, Just for Laughs and Pride Week.

Why should my tax dollars go to this?
Bad enough I have to pay into EI and cant ever collect it,I have to pony up my everly scarce dollars to fund this kind of bullshit.

    Priorities people,lets get them straight.

it wouldn't matter what harper or the government did on this issue , there never going to please everyone . as the conservative base see's it as a waste of taxpayer money , more average people are ok with it but not really excited about the idea and the cultural groups will always want more money then what is being offered esspecially during tight economic times .
