"It's not only lesson for me, it's a lesson for all Canadian citizens."

Keep your passport up to date?

Jonathan Kay: The Muslim Canadian Congress makes an excellent point about the Suaad Mohamud case
Posted: August 15, 2009, 8:36 AM by Jonathan Kay

Since the media began reporting on the case of Suaad Mohamud the Somali-Canadian woman unjustly detained in Kenya over suspicions that she was not who she said she was many irresponsible outlets have been suggesting that her mistreatment originated in the supposed racism of Stephen Harper's conservative government. Leading the pack in this regard has been the Toronto Star's Chirstopher Hume who, as already noted, uncorked an unhinged rant citing the episode as evidence that Canada has become an "apartheid" state.

But who is the Canadian Vice Consul in Kenya the Canadian government's main actor on this case, and the person who allegedly persuaded the Kenyans to lock Mohamud up? Following the logic of Hume, one would assume she is some neo-Nazi thug who Harper picked up off the streets of Calgary and dispatched to Africa with instructions to keep the blacks out of our backyards. Oops: As highlighted in the following Muslim Canadian Congress press release, turns out the woman is a female Egyptian-Canadian bureaucrat.

In other words to the entirely unproven extent we are dealing with any kind of racial animus at all what we are allegedly confronting is not White-on-black racism, but Arab-on-black racism (the same kind of racism behind the extermination of hundreds of thousands of blacks in Darfur).

Arabs vs. blacks? Not quite as sexy as "apartheid," is it Mr. Hume?

What!! You mean that Harper himself didn't do this?

I saw the multiple ID's on TV that she provided to the Canadian consul. A driver's license that was clear as hell to me. Unless he is legally blind, there was something else behind this.

Gotta love Iggy jumping in with his two cents.

Maybe Harper should have flown over himself like Bill Clinton did and pick her up....then they'd complain it was a waste of Canadian resources.

You really just mak ethis shit up, dont't you.

The Kenian officials flagged her. Not the Canadians, and not theCanadian Vice Consul in Kenya, Ms. Liliane Khadour.

What this is sounding like is someone tried to use her passport to get back to Canada but they didn't fool the Kenian airport officials. Instead of trying it again, her passport was flagged and officials took a much closer look at her.

The fact that the Libs need to turn this into a Tory mistake proves their desperation in covering up their failed immigration policy.

Oh Cmon RR. Stay on point for a change. The Kenyans questioned the Passport. THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT CONSUL REVOKED her passport AFTER she provided all of her ID including her Ontario drivers license, her health card both of which has photo ID that even I could recognize on a TV screen 25 feet away.

Its been in the papers, CBC, CTV and probably every other media format available and YOU HAVENT seen it????????? How can you as a political junkie be so ill informed unless of course its the typical wilful ignorance because it would be inconvenient to admit the truth?

If another woman showed up at the airport with her passport, wouldn't you want our officials to stop her and try and figure out whay she would let her passport get used?

But let's not get in the way of another media driven witch hunt.

yeah.. can't let things like that get in the way of a good faux-scandal

What are you going to do when CSIS or the RCMP come back saying she has connections?

Again, you just make it up as you go. Grow up.

Our government revoked her passport stating she wasn't who she said she was.

She had enough ID to prove otherwise.

Our government told the Kenyans to charge her.

The DNA proved she was who she said she was.

Where did I get it wrong?

The woman who showed up at the airport couldn't prove who she was good enough to airport officials. Can you?

Our government told the Kenyans to charge her.

Where did you get that news? Please do elaborate on that one.

the Canadian High Commission's first secretary, tells Kenyan government officials a thorough investigation has determined Mohamud is an impostor and recommends that she be prosecuted.

It's the first story on most news outlets. You're incorrect. This isn't a witchhunt.

Our government screwed up. End of story.
