"The phenomenon is most noticeable near the Arctic, where water temperatures are as much as 10 degrees (5.5 Celsius) above average. The tongues of warm water could help melt sea ice from below and even cause thawing of ice sheets on Greenland, said Waleed Abdalati, director of the Earth Science and Observation Center at the University of Colorado."
Really? doesn't seem to be a banner year for sea ice melting, more fear mongering .
It still has time to drop. I dunno about where you are, but here in Petawawa and bak home on Vancouver Island summer has arrived about a month late it seems.
The article is written by global warming catastrophist Seth Borenstein. Borenstein is reminiscent of South Park's Randy Marsh.
When an alarmist favoring organization like the AP finds somebody like Seth Borenstein to write an article it's a sign of desperation, and you can bet money there's good argument somewhere showing it to be overhyped nonsense. Here's an example at the 2008 winner of the best science blog award...
Borenstein's AP Sea Surface Temperature Article is misleading.
The last 3 summers where I've lived in S.Ontario have been cooler than normal. Winter has brought more snow than usual. Yep, sounds like a real warming trend there. Now where's my Y2K shopping list?
Here's another one giving a more rounded idea of what's happening in the world's oceans than what Borenstein offered...
Climate Observation's graphs of SST by ocean area
There is no "Heat Records Being Smashed in Oceans Everywhere", and even if there was, which again there is not, so what? It wouldn't prove the gas we exhale is causing it.

Agreed... here in Nova Scotia, the last three winters have been a lot colder, more snow then I remember in the last 10 or so years.
And it wasn't until just last Thursday that we've started getting temps in the high 20's / low 30's..... and now a hurricane is coming to wipe that all out and cool us down again.
The thing about Globalwarmongers is that they never account for hurricanes and their effects, which is in a nutshell, Nature's air conditioner.
They freak out about bigger and worse hurricanes when it get's warmer and focus on them being so damn distructive, but it's Nature's method of regulation, so duh they'd be bigger when it's warmer.... they feed off heat ffs.
Since Katrina and Juan, there haven't been many hurricanes to worry about.... why?
Ever notice how the winters have gotten cooler since Katrina and Juan?
Anybody remember "White Juan" after Juan hit? Nova Scotia was burried in snow.
If Globalwarmongers actually used their damn common sense, they'd notice these patterns and wouldn't keep jumping back and forth from Global Warming to Cooling whenever it suited them.
But, but, but....................It Is Climate Change!!!!!
Trouble is there has been no time in the geological recarod when there has not been climate change. If you compare today to some other time it is bound to be different. Warmer, cooler, wetter, dryer, etc.
There is no "Heat Records Being Smashed in Oceans Everywhere", and even if there was, which again there is not, so what? It wouldn't prove the gas we exhale is causing it.
?? There aren't?
While I agree that the is up for some debate, it looks like some significant hot temps there. Yes, .1 degree doesn't seem like much, but think of it this way; (and I still remember this from Thermodynamics class) To get the temperature of the Gulf of Mexico to rise .5 degrees C to a depth of 2cm, it would take the energy output of several million Multi-Megaton nuclear weapons.
So, the entire Northern Hemisphere rising .6 degrees since 1985 is fairly significant. Now, think of the extra energy available for Hurricanes to feed off of . . .
I think he was making the point that certain people are trying to sensationalize what is a natural global phenomenon. Ocean temps rising? Sure, they never remain a constant temperature. Smashing records however? I'm thinking, Holy exaggeration Batman!!

Everybody panic
Excellent..

Quite so.
