Sounds like the 2010 Winter Olympics is shaping up to be a real "blast."

It's the same sound effect they used for the giant ants in the '50's b-movie, "Them".

I hope it goes to 11 because most of the protesters may already be dealf from cronic high volume music already.

Should be relatively easy to build a sonic mirror--not that the protesters would be that sophisticated. The military--at least the US military--has way cooler sonic weapons than this thing. The one I like is two ultrasonic beams that interfere to create harmonies/beats in the human audio spectrum.

And the strategy to counter a sonic weapon is to destroy it. If the police deploy this thing for crowd control the crowds will start deploying Molotov cocktails and etc. to counter the weapon. And, like the taser, it won't be long before some fucktard with a badge decides to use one of these things on a schoolyard full of little kids or at a senior citizens' rally. Like any other shiny toy, the cops'll be just plain itchin' to misuse this thing.

Bear in mind I'm a reserve cop saying this, okay?

The police already used it as a highly effective, directional loudspeaker during the symphony of fire. If they need to use the area denial potential to get some people to move along, it's a hell of a lot better that charging at them on horse back.

So if you've just deafened a group of people I guess they have a reason to no longer obay lawful orders, since they won't hear them over the ringing in their heads.
