An Ottawa police officer has admitted to slapping, kicking and grabbing a teenager by the throat while questioning him about an alleged stabbing in July.
The system works, he was held accountable as he should have been for this.
There isn't a victim to give evidence against him otherwise he would have been charged criminally as the senior officer from Ottawa police said.
He got charged under the Police Act for something the Police would not have charged a civilian with because they couldn't locate the victim.
The cop lost pay, and he'll have this on his record for ever.
With the recent SCC Vs McNeil decision, this cops misconduct will be disclosed at every criminal trial he is a part of that involves any act of violence until he dies. I'd say his career is pretty much over as it should be. The police dont need people like this.
Its a pity the RCMP couldnt be as transparent as Ontario police services are, they wouldnt be in such a shit position of lack of trust with the public they serve.
Too may 'unknowns' here.Because the 'victim' hasn't been located all the facts haven't come out. Did the kid threaten the cop? Did the kid have a weapon? Did the kid bite, or try to bite the cop? Did the kid spit on the cop?
Until the facts are known, at most, any promotions for the cop should have been put on hold for maybe a year or two.

Well from reading the SCC decision and talking to some officers my understanding of what that ruling said and what each province is telling its forces to do in light of it vary from province to province.
The ruling said only information from the officer history that is related and relevant to the case he is witness for. So technically if this office was in court for a fraud case this abuse issue should not be released to the defense.
That said I know Sask and BC are doing like you mentioned and going a step further, just releasing everything under the worry ot the crown not releasing the right information to the court since it is up to the crown to release this info.
Officer get stupid spiteful complaints and sadly with the provinces taking the release all info stance rather than the "lets think about this" stance every stupid complaint by guys pissed just because they were caught will be open for scrutiny.
More on par with this case however, this does not sound like a frivolous complaint so he's got to live with it.
It's understandable some would feel he deserves it but our officer have to be held to a higher standard, I'm sure they all agree he deserves a whack up side the head like his parents should have given him years ago but their professional exercising of restraint by not acting on those thoughts are what makes them good cops and earn public trust. Allowing this also leads to a slippery slope for escalation in how rough suspects are treated.
It was a police officer who acted like a child and could not control his temper and act in a professional manner. I would think eventually some you people will run out of excuses for police misconduct ....But like a beaten wife they are too scared to admit to the problem And continue to look the other way.... if this was just an occasional thing that happened once every couple months I too would be willing To understand and accept it.... but this type of conduct is becoming an everyday thing that cannot be accepted by the people of Canada.................

Of course you were there and have all the facts. He was punished but that wasn't good enough for you. Your bias towards police officers reveals a rather immature, little boy.
Hmmm considering the kid was told he was "lucky someone was watching", I'm not surprised they can't find him. Why would he trust ANY cop after that incident?

And they also keep holding them accountable. Victim or no victim.

You've just described like 95% of our population, given that I wouldn't trust most people to hold my hat let alone to serve and protect we have to accept the ones that make the grade as far as our forces are concearned and if a few slip through the cracks it happens, no one is perfect and yes sometimes when I'm having a bad day I make stupid mistakes/decisions. The idea of holding cops to a higher level is nice in theory, but given that 1. he was disiplined, 2. the only reason no criminal charges were filed is because the victim hasn't come forward, shows to me that there is accountablility.
